NEWS From Over The BORDER

News from Over The Border comes to us from other counties.  Closest to us, they include Somersetshire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire,

and Herefordshire.

That is 6 directly neighbouring counties no less, but...

With a ? mark over its potential international status, we also include number 7, Welsh Monmouthshire.

PS - We ignore adjustments made to our borders for council convenience. These include civic areas such as South Glos and BANES.

And They Call This A Debate???

‘Safety’ is a word becoming one of the most used – if not one of the most over-used words in the national lexicon. People have become obsessed with safety and at the cost of common sense in many cases.

Now, I’d be the last to argue that safety – and I mean safety procedures etc - aren’t important. I would admit that safety routines are vital and certainly where common sense, knowledge or experience is missing. So why is it then, the gov’t drivers of policy seem to dismiss the issue about jab safety – saying in effect there’s no evidence of harm – when there is?

The Yellow Poppy

In our mind’s eye we have images of red poppies galore, the Whitehall Cenotaph and – for me at least - the sound of Nimrod playing in my head which never fails to bleed a sorrowful tear. And these feelings are replicated, I know, among millions who are affected in the same way. But after many years now, I am now affected in a different way.

I Beg Your Pardon?

Every so often, something pops up online that gets everyone’s attention. Everyone who’s paying attention, anyway. A recent article on The Atlantic’s website suggesting we have a pandemic amnesty is one such thing.

Is the concept of a pandemic amnesty about forgiveness and unity? If so, who gets forgiven - everyone, or just the people on one side of the divide? Does Emily Oster WANT unity, or is this a trick to create even more division? What IS a pandemic amnesty? Is it a confession - an admission of guilt - or is it a trick - a new ploy to divide an already hugely divided world?

Lasagne

A classic Italian dish that – some claim – originated in ancient Greece! There are many versions of this comforting, golden, layered dish, all quite different, but one common ingredient.

That common ingredient is the signature component – Lasagne - sheet pasta. Serve with just some salad – a Greek salad, perhaps, as a nod to its possible long-ago origin. This Lasagne recipe is easy and quick to make - and it freezes well [if there’s any left!] You’ll never buy a ready-made Lasagne again!
