NEWS From Over The BORDER
News from Over The Border comes to us from other counties. Closest to us, they include Somersetshire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire,
and Herefordshire.
That is 6 directly neighbouring counties no less, but...
With a ? mark over its potential international status, we also include number 7, Welsh Monmouthshire.
PS - We ignore adjustments made to our borders for council convenience. These include civic areas such as South Glos and BANES.

Barbarism In The Cotswolds?
The Cotswolds, it has to be said, is usually associated more with Barbourism than with Barbarism. But this lovely area has a dark secret – one that involves physical violence.
Some call it tradition and sport.
Others call it barbaric and say it’s time for it to end.
Shin Kicking is taking place next year as a key event in the Cotswold Olimpick Games. No, I haven’t spelt that wrong – it’s what the games are called.
The council are even supporting this tradition, sport or act of barbarism with a grant of £5,000.

Braised Beef In Barolo Wine
Meat & wines are fantastic in Piedmont, the region of Slow Food and far more important, the Region where I was born! Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto - just to name a few - they all come from my beloved Region: Piedmont. Called in this way because of its location “ad pedem montium” (at the foot of the mountains) On the other side of them we have France.
That is probably why those that know me think I have a funny accent - being an Italian, speaking the “old Piedmontese” - a mix between Italian and French. Lucky me!
So to the recipe, meat and wine… Brasato combines the two!

A Roaring Success!
Tetbury Lions have announced the causes they have given funding to this year.
This year has been a roaring success for them in terms of giving, despite all the challenges that they – along with the rest of us – have faced.
Not being able to fundraise because of Covid-19 hasn’t stopped the Lions, under Maggie Heaven’s leadership, from awarding a stonking £19,000+ to a wide range of organisations, including Tetbury’s Food Bank.

Mounted Police Attend School
The government’s plan to have our children jabbed against the - apparently ever-mutating – virus, has not been received well by an increasing number of parents and caring citizens.
News reached us last week - via a parent with a child at a school in Cirencester - that the government’s In-School Jab Team were going to arrive at the school to carry out their immunisation of the students. We were able to get some further insider information which proved to be enlightening.
