NEWS From Over The VALLEY
In Tetbury, we are lucky to have some lovely and very active local villages and towns nearby.
Closest to us - in Gloucestershire - are Nailsworth, Stroud and Cirencester. With a blurring of our nearest county border - just a few miles away, we also have Malmesbury in Wiltshire.
Due to our closest of neighbours being so close to us in Tetbury, we have included Malmesbury in News from Over The Valley - as Insiders.
That is - rather than Outsiders, Over The Boundary.
People Are Starting To Notice...
Could the recent advertisement by a high-end watch company be a sign that more people are speaking out about something important? That being – the Emperor has no clothes – he’s as naked as the day he was born – and we need to SAY so.
In Hans Christian Andersen’s folk tale, it is a child who blurts out the truth, as children tend to do - from the mouths of babes as they say. Thank goodness for their tendency, because too often – especially these days – the so-called grownups don’t. As in the story, in real life, people often go along uncomfortably with pretence because they do not want to appear inept or stupid.

I'm A Stone Stile Addict!
When I read an article in my village’s electronic newsletter about the Gloucestershire Stone Stile Project, I knew at once I wanted to become involved.
Perhaps it was partly because, after nearly a year of on-off lockdowns, I was ready to do something new. Perhaps there are other reasons, reasons which are not yet clear to me.
Stiles were on ancient pathways and are part of our heritage. It’s so important that they are preserved, which means listing them so that they are protected. Volunteers are still needed – who’s up for joining me as a stone stile searcher?
One Rule 4U And A Tiny One 4Me
How many times have each of us heard the above title or
version of it – “It’s one rule for us and another one for them”?
More times I fancy that we would wish to count.
The thing is – apart from the almost fun nature of the line –
there is a very real element of truth about it. Last week the
Party-gate stories came to a head - centred on No 10 and other
gov’t offices – with the MET police issuing token fines to the
accused found guilty. No fines issued for the crime of lying -yet!
The last 2yrs and more have brought into sharp focus all the many things which are wrong or just inadequate in our world. We have been shown the fragility of our systems and the shortcomings of our leaders – the leaders charged with the task to care for and protect the people.
Whilst some leaders may well have crimes to answer for in the near future, what the situation has made plain to us all now is that a different way of thinking is required. A different way of thinking for a different kind of world.
