NEWS From Over The FENCE
Some people will remember the days when women stayed at home to work - and men didn't.
Men leant on their shovels putting the world to right, chewing the cud with other Men - and Women leant on the fence putting their Men to right, gossiping with other Women.
Well, men rarely work with shovels these days, but there is still news and gossip to be had over the fence. And it's available here on CONNECT.
Could YOU Write With Us?
There are all kinds of reasons why, like the lady in our photograph, you’re not writing – or not enough, anyway. One reason might be - where on earth can you share what you think, feel or believe about what matters to you?
Social media tends to allow just a brief glimpse of people’s thoughts and concerns before they’re buried under the continual avalanche of succeeding posts. It’s not ideal – instead, why not be a Writer for CONNECT? CONNECT was set up, in part, to encourage citizen journalists. If writing feature articles appeals to you, we’d love to have you aboard!
The Power Of A Good Story
It’s easy to forget that, bombarded as we are from every direction – it seems - by different messages, the messages we take notice of are the ones that tell a story. Whatever form the message takes – it’s about THE STORY.
So - what makes a good story? There’ll be as many answers to that question as people in the world. Or will there? And that these go way beyond “beginning, middle and end”?
The Matt Hancock Messages
This last week we have seen an explosion in the media, brought to us by a journalist who considered the information they had received so important – despite being confidential – that it was a public interest issue.
Isabel Oakeshott has become a well-known public figure in what could turn into being the scoop of the century. The journalist obtained confidential messages connected with her co-authorship of the - PR related - book by the ex-Minister of State for Health - Matt Hancock. The details of those messages are now being publicised by The Daily Telegraph.
No2 Problems? Well, Try This…
I first saw this image on a friend’s bedroom wall – and since then, have come to know it’s one of the world’s most iconic of images. Well, I can see the photographer captured something of interest for tennis fans. But…
The thing is - this young woman in the 1970s – wasn’t really a tennis player at all. The picture was staged – plus the tennis racquet was borrowed, the balls were really the family dog’s playthings and the tennis shoes were the woman’s father’s – apparently! The whole thing was a bit of fun for the two involved then – but now, this image can be of immense help to us all!
