BE Kind, BE Fair, BE Honest, BE True
and all these things will come back to you
Our international news comes from the worldwide pot of news stories. The source being a national or international broadcaster - within the mainstream media fraternity - or an independent freelance citizen journalist working from their homebase.
We will pick from the extensive tableau of news items, those items we feel fit best with our own interests and those of our readers. Those items will range between general interest topics and those which are considered important, if not serious.
How We Can Adapt Our Towns
When we ask that question of ourselves – “How can we adapt our towns?” – the question which might precede it, is “why would we want to?” Well, if you are like me - you might think of a dozen reasons straight off.
A top reason might be to address the vehicle Congestion problem which is the most common of problems in villages, towns and cities. The next reason might relate to how we interact with each other – or don’t – being a subject falling under the heading of Community. If people constantly walk by you without so much as a look, it could signal a lack in this area!
A New Car Park With Housing?
The plan to build new homes on the site of Tetbury’s former Tesco filling station is on hold. Many local people have objected to the developer’s current plans - and our Town Council agrees - those plans need to change.
I’ve been doing a lot of research lately into cohousing - a way of living as part of a community, while still having personal privacy - and I can’t help wondering – could a cohousing project work on the filling station site? If not there, is there a place in Tetbury where a cohousing project could be created? I’d love to know what people who live in this town think about this!
My Perfect Community
I was recently asked the question - What would my perfect community look like? As I have the sort of mind that loves a good opportunity to dream up something different, I thought I’d share what I see.
In this article, I will consider how an integrated, wholistic/whole system – one that could even be scaled up to a village or small town - would look. Our current urban areas rely almost entirely on national utilities and consumer outlets but I believe that a deeper connection with nature and living in communities with an ethos of living to-gather, is the only way to go.
Small Farms Matter – Here’s Why
At this time in the world, everything is being scaled up - costs and prices in particular. But our very continuance on this world is not just about embracing the BIG. Without the small we’re all far too much at risk.
One of the reasons governments have subsidised small farms is to ensure they exist – to ensure the population is not totally dependent upon mass farming – mass shipping and mass everything. Small farms have a vital role to play in the mix of the supply chains today. Plus – on a local scale – small farms can often sustain the local community – benefiting the environment.
